Diwali celebrations origin goes back to Ramayana, on this day of Diwali Sri Rama along with Sita & Lakshmana returned to Ayodhya after completing 14 years of Aranya vasa / forest stay. The citizens of Ayodhya prepared grand welcome for Rama, every street of Ayodhya was lighted with mud lamps and burning crackers. Ayodhya people felt, their darkness days without Rama is over and their life regained joy, happiness with Rama arrival, to mark this event, they lighted thousand of lamps brining light, joy and glory to Ayodhya and later on this became as a celebration all over. Thus Diwali signifies prosperity, Rama got its prosperity back after struggle days in forest.
Why Lakshmi pooja celebrated on Diwali?
For so many years goddess Lakshmi was residing inside the sea / samdura, without her presence all the devatas, asuras and people were living with poverty.
Samudra Mathana by Gods and Asura happened during these Diwali days for obtaining Amrutha from sea. During this event, on the day of Diwali Amavasya, goddess Lakshmi came back from Samudra and rejoined lord Vishnu. With the return of Lakshmi, Vaikunta (house of lord Vishnu) regained its glory & prosperity, all the devatas, asuras and people also regained their prosperity. From there onwards Diwali became festival of prosperity. All the gods appraised and prayed to goodness Lakshmi welcoming here for spreading prosperity and the celebration continuing till now as a prayer to goddess Lakshmi and seeking prosperity from her.
What is the Auspisious / best time to do Lakshmi pooja during Diwali?
Usually Evening 6pm onwards is the best and auspicious time to perform Lakshmi pooja.
Important Dos and Dont's for Diwali Celebrations
Clean your house for removing poverty and welcoming goddess lakshmi for prosperity.
Men should take oil bath before sun rise on day of diwali. Oil bath is significatant to bid farewell to poverty goddess and welcome goddess lakshmi of prosperity.
Light the mud lamps as much as possible in house and surroundings, to remove darkness from your life and welcome richness, happiness and joy.
Do not pollute environment with too much crackers, limit it to mark celebration and not to pollute our environment.
